PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS BOARD HOLDS FIRST MEETING

The recently appointed Professional Engineers Board held its first meeting for the 2024-2025 term on Thursday September 26th, 2024. The Board consists of newly appointed Engineers Kevin Basden and Diedre Taylor and continuing members Engineers Derrick King, Dillon Knowles, Christopher Wells and Chinyere Ijeoma. Director of Public Works Engineer Robert Mouzas is also appointed to the Board and Engineer Wellington Neely continues as Registrar.

At the meeting Eng. King was elected Chairman and Eng. Wells elected Deputy Chairman. Other business included the elections of Eng. Wells as Chairman of the Assessment Committee and Eng. Chinyere Ijeoma as Chairman of the Accreditation Committee. Engs. King, Wells and Ijeoma agreed to serve as signatories for the Board’s bank accounts.

The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and accepted, and it was agreed that outstanding matters would be continued. These matters include:

  1. Passage of the regulations,
  2. Work with the University of the Bahamas to ensure accreditation of degrees,
  3. EOR sign off requirements prior to issue of Certificate of Occupancy,
  4. Building Control Department Professional Certification Program (Utilize Professional Engineer and other qualified persons as Building Inspector),

Engineers Wells and Ijeoma will seek Engineers willing to serve on the Assessment and Accreditation committee.

At adjournment those present agreed to meet at 12.00 noon on Thursday October 17th, 2024.
